We have been drinking hot chocolate for thousands of years here on earth. The very first chocolate drink was probably made by the Mayans around 2000 years ago. The drink came from Mexico to Europe in the 16th century where it was even used as a medicine against liver and stomach diseases until the 19th century.
Now I definitely agree that you will feel better with hot chocolate. It will certainly make you warmer. Especially if you make it completely to your own taste. For a cold or rainy day that calls for drinking a hot cup, I have collected 5 recipes for you as inspiration that you can of course also adjust to your own taste!

All recipes are for 2 mugs.
The basic recipe
Ingredients:
• 2 tablespoons sugar
• 4 tablespoons cocoa
• 500 ml milk
• Extra: freshly whipped cream
Here's how to make it:
Mix the sugar and cocoa in a cup together with a small dash of water. Stir until a smooth dark brown paste. Bring the milk to the boil and pour into the cocoa mixture while stirring. If you like it sweet, add extra sugar to taste.
Top your hot chocolate with whipped cream.
Spicy chocolate milk
Ingredients:
• 2 tablespoons sugar
• 4 tablespoons cocoa
• 1 pinch of cinnamon powder
• 1 pinch of ground cardamom
• 500 ml milk
• Extra: freshly whipped cream
Here's how to make it:
Mix the sugar, cocoa, cinnamon and ground cardamom in a cup together with a small dash of water. Stir until a smooth dark brown paste. Bring the milk to the boil and pour into the cocoa mixture while stirring. If you like it sweet, add extra sugar to taste.
Beat the whipped cream until fluffy with a pinch of cardamom and top your hot chocolate with it.
Crazy chocolate milk
Ingredients:
• 4 tablespoons cocoa
• 2 tablespoons of crushed mice
• 2 teaspoons cinnamon powder
• 500 ml milk
• 2 tablespoons mini marshmallows
Here's how to make it:
Mix the cocoa, crushed mice and cinnamon in a cup together with a small dash of water. Stir until a smooth dark brown paste. Bring the milk to the boil and pour into the cocoa mixture while stirring. If you like it sweet, add extra sugar to taste.
Top your hot chocolate with a spoonful of mini marshmallows
Red velvet chocolate milk
Ingredients:
• 100 grams of ruby chocolate
• 2 tablespoons cocoa
• 2 tablespoons vanilla sugar
• 500 ml milk
• Extra: freshly whipped cream & sprinkles
Here's how to make it:
Place the ruby chocolate, cocoa, vanilla sugar and milk in a pan. Bring to the boil while stirring and pour into the mugs. If you like it sweet, add extra sugar to taste.
Whip the cream until stiff and add a generous dollop to your hot chocolate. Sprinkle some sprinkles over it to finish off your red velvet chocolate milk
Chocolate milk with rum
Ingredients:
• 2 tablespoons sugar
• 4 tablespoons cocoa
• 500 ml milk
• 2 dashes of dark rum
• Extra: freshly whipped cream & almond shavings
Here's how to make it:
Mix the sugar and cocoa in a cup together with a small dash of water. Stir until a smooth dark brown paste. Bring the milk to the boil and pour into the cocoa mixture while stirring. Now add a dash of dark rum to the chocolate milk. If you like it sweet, add extra sugar to taste.
Whip the cream until stiff and add a generous dollop to your hot chocolate. Sprinkle some almond flakes over it to finish off your hot chocolate.
